After Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji visited Nanakmatta and the east, Guru Ji returned to the Punjab.

In 1628, Guru Hargobind arrived here. At the time there was a jungle with wild animals and a large pool of water nearby.

Guru Hargobind was accompanied by a 200 strong force of Sikhs. A hazoori ragi, named Hira, belonging to the Raja of Barundi performed kirtan for Guru Ji.

Guru Hargobind was pleased with the kirtan and asked Hira if he wanted anything in return. Hira was asked three times but said he didn't need anything.

After asking Hira for his name, Guru Hargobind said that more Hira (metaphor for pure and honest Sikhs, literal meaning - diamonds) would come from this location.

Guru Hargobind brushed his teeth with a kikar datan which, when planted, grew into a tree. The tree was removed in error when the Gurdwara was built.
