This magnificent Gurdwara is located about 15 km from Chandigarh on the road to Patiala; the Zirakpur Highway.

Pandit Kripa Ram Dutt along with about 500 Kashmiri Pandits (on 25th May 1675) begged Guru Tegh Bahadur to save them and their religion (hinduism) in the face of mughal tyranny.

As a result Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was put in chains and ordered to be tortured until he would accept Islam.

When Guru Tegh Bahadur could not be persuaded to abandon his faith to save himself from persecution, he was asked to perform miracles to prove his divinity.

Refusing to do so, Guru Tegh Bahadur was beheaded in public at Chandni Chowk on 24th November 1675.

Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji is known as 'Hind Di Chadar' ie. 'The Shield of India', as he gave up his life to protect the religious freedom of non-muslims in mughal India.

Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib in Chandni Chowk, Delhi, has been built over the area where Guru Tegh Bahadur was beheaded.

Gurdwara Sri Rakab Ganj Sahib, also in Delhi, is built on the site of the residence of Lakhi Shah Vanjara, a Sikh of the Guru, who burnt his house in order to cremate the Guru's body.

The severed head of Guru Tegh Bahadur, executed in Delhi, was brought to Kiratpur by Bhai Jaita (later Bhai Jivan Singh). On his way to Kiratpur, Bhai Jaita paused with the Guru's severed head at this place at the request of an aged muslim, Faqir Dargahi Shah, a disciple of the Guru. Learning of this, the people of the area rushed to the site to pay their last respects to the Guru.

Faqir Dargahi Shah, being too old and sick to travel to Anandpur Sahib sent a message through Bhai Jaita to Guru Gobind Singh, requesting that he come to visit him. So after the battle of Bhangani against the mughals, Guru Gobind Singh visited Nabha Sahib in 1698.

Guru Gobind Singh met with Faqir Dargahi Shah. The Faqir had requested liberation and was asked by Guru Gobind Singh to pray to God for 40 days before leaving his mortal frame. The samadh (mazhar) of the muslim faqir, is in the vicinity of the Gurdwara, is also visited by Sikhs, who pay homage to him for his divine association with Guru Tegh Bahadur.

In 1709, Baba Banda Singh Bahadur stopped here to pay homage to Guru Tegh Bahadur and Faqir Dargahi Shah, before his attack on Sirhind. Baba Banda Singh Bahadur wrote Wazir Khan a warning letter from here.

Every year on 21-22 Assu (September), a big fair called the Jor Mela is organized here in the memory of Guru Tegh Bahadur, Guru Gobind Singh, Faqir Dargahi Shah and Baba Banda Singh Bahadur.
